Present Day Garston

Garston Photos

Historically Garston was a small medieval village on the banks of the Garston Brook, close to its confluence with the River Mersey. The viilage was clustered around St Michael's church and Garston Hall. This grew, in the mid 19th C onwards, into an busy port and industrial area. With the decline of the local industries and port in the mid to late 20th C, much urban decay developed in parts of Garston including St Mary's Rd, the main shopping street.

In recent years, Garston has undergone significant urban regeneration. Today it is a blend of 19th to 21st C architecture. However much more needs to be done. This section sets out to illustrate aspects of the current built environment.
